Raised by a foster family in a tough, lower-class borough of New York, Graham worked as a cab driver, waiter, and actor before moving to San Francisco in the early 1960s. Consequently, the actual concert site was several miles away from Woodstock, just outside the small town of Bethel. Fortunately for the concert’s organizers, the owner of one of the largest farms in the area agreed to rent out 600 acres of land to them for the three-day event. Late on the morning of August 16, Santana was flown to Fame the concert site by helicopter—the only way the band could get into the festival at that point.
